Publishing your ISSW research in an academic, peer-reviewed journals

There are two options for authors to publish the work presented at ISSW 2016 in peer reviewed journals. Submissions to both journals must be significantly different than the proceedings paper. Manuscripts will go through the peer review process for each journal and be published in a special issue of material from ISSW 2016.

Cold Regions Science and Technology

Cold Regions Science and Technology is an international journal dealing with the science and technical problems of cold environments in both the polar regions and more temperate locations. It includes fundamental aspects of cryospheric sciences which have applications for cold regions problems as well as engineering topics which relate to the cryosphere.

Emphasis is given to applied science with broad coverage of the physical and mechanical aspects of ice (including glaciers and sea ice), snow and snow avalanches, ice-water systems, ice-bonded soils and permafrost.

Technological advances for cold regions in research, development, and engineering practice are relevant to the journal. Theoretical papers must include a detailed discussion of the potential application of the theory to address cold regions problems. The journal serves a wide range of specialists, providing a medium for interdisciplinary communication and a convenient source of reference.

Please note that manuscripts submitted to CRST must be different from those published in the ISSW proceedings and need to contribute to academic research. Approaches for expanding an ISSW paper include discussing the theoretical frameworks or methods in more detail, expanding the extent of the study with additional data or analyses, or supplementing your discussion with additional case studies.

Deadline for submission: December 1, 2016.
You can learn more about the journal, find the Guide for Authors, and submit your manuscript here.

Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism

ISSW authors of non-natural science focused avalanche safety studies interested in publishing their research in an academic journal are encourage to submit a manuscript to the Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism (JORT), which is focused on interdisciplinary and applied research in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. The collaboration between ISSW and JORT was initiated at the 2014 ISSW in Banff with the goal to provide a platform for the emerging field of ‘human factors’ research in the avalanche community and facilitate the exchange with researchers in related fields. The submitted 2014 ISSW papers were published as part of a special issue on risk in outdoor recreation.

Please note that manuscripts submitted to JORT must be different from those published in the ISSW proceedings and need to contribute to academic research. Approaches for expanding an ISSW paper include discussing the theoretical frameworks or methods in more detail, expanding the extent of the study with additional data or analyses, or supplementing your discussion with additional case studies.
